The discipleship and training camp of CONAC FC, organized by the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion which took place in Gospel City Centre in Offa, Kwara State has ended after three weeks of intense training.

The camp aimed to provide spiritual guidance, mentorship, and technical training to the talented young boys who were selected earlier this year in Abuja.

The Rt. Rev’d Solomon Akanbi, the National Football Coordinator, emphasized that the Church is nurturing these players to be champions of Christ in the football world and to see themselves as ambassadors in their chosen careers. “Both players and coaches went through the discipleship and mentoring orientation.” These initiatives he said were designed to “nurture and enhance their spirituality, to ensure that the team is not only physically prepared but also spiritually grounded.

The discipleship training was led by Professor Duro Adegboye with the Bishop of the Diocese of Osun, The Rt. Rev. Foluso Olugbenga Babatunji, expressing his confidence in the vision and commended the players for their cohesion and determination.

CONAC FC had some impressive trial matches during the camping beginning with the defeat of Ajayi Crowther University Football Team with 5 goals to 0, defeating Oyanisuwa FC with a score of 4-0, and trashing Focus FC Offa with a lone goal. They also played a 1:1 draw against Hamola FC in Osogbo, and to top it off, they trashed Biola Babes FC with 4-0 goals in Offa.

Meanwhile, Bishop Akanbi has revealed that other sports such as Volleyball, Table Tennis, and Hockey will form part of the sports department. He further said there are plans to set up a female football team.
“It is not only football that we will concentrate on, under the Joshua Generation of the Church of Nigeria, we have other sporting activities; like Volleyball, Table Tennis, Hockey, and Others. We will also have a plan for the female team of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion and this will be coming on board very soon,” he said.

He also stated the team is in dire need of a luxurious coaster bus while seeking support in accommodation, training pitch as well as feeding for the team.

“A Luxurious coaster bus that will enhance the movement of the players in a relaxed mood. Funding their feeding and their allowances is also something that we are looking into.
“We also need support in the area of accommodation and other services for a team because from January they are going to be employed. They are going to be full-time workers of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion.

“And finally, we need a football pitch where they can train and then get themselves to play football.
The Team is to resume to Abuja next year where they will be playing in the FCT Division 2 tournament for 2024.
