Church of Nigeria Mourns the Loss of the Revd Dr Mike Ovey,

an Ally and Diligent Soldier of Christ

We received with utmost shock and sadness the sudden death of the Revd Dr Mike Ovey, a diligent, loyal, and faithful ally in the gospel of Christ.

Mike was very committed to the true evangelical Anglican faith and was such an uncompromising scholar in the face of modern revisionism.  Together we have stood in the war against revisionism and ultra liberal agenda that the Anglican Communion has been engaged in for more than a decade.

Thus, his sudden death is a terrible loss to us in GAFCON and certainly to the many upcoming evangelical scholars and the Oakhill College community in London where he was the Principal. He was such a fine scholar and believer that anyone who ever met him would appreciate this loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and immediate family members for whom this is the death of a husband and father.

We give thanks to God for a life well-spent in the service of the Lord and for all that Mike contributed to our Christian world especially in the Anglican family.

In all these we are comforted by the hope of resurrection that is far beyond the pain of sorrow and death. We believe that our brother is resting and pray that the family and all of us may be comforted by this.

On behalf of the entire Church of Nigeria, we like to express our heartfelt condolences to the family and pray for the fortitude to bear this loss.

Yours sincerely,
