The General Synod passed a Resolution on the operations and functions of the Foreign Missions of the Church of Nigeria in order to bring all Foreign Missions within the Constitutional Provisions of the Church of Nigeria and under the supervision of the Office of the Primate and the Directorate of Missions [Foreign].  Effectively, Dioceses created outside the jurisdiction of the Church of Nigeria were dissolved and reverted to Missionary Dioceses and Areas. This is in line with the Fundamental principle of juridical policy in the Anglican Communion. The Church of Nigeria has the right to own Missions and Convocations outside her geographic Jurisdiction and share in partnership in Missions with Dioceses and Provinces that share her Doctrinal and Missional convictions.

The Implementation of the Resolution on CONNAM has begun. The necessary Consultations and putting the necessary Structures in place have also been effected.

  • The CONNAM Missionary Regions have been delineated and Assigned to the Bishops.
  • Mission Areas have been created and we have appointed the Canon Missioners who will supervise these areas under the Bishops of the Regions.

We must thank and commend all our Bishops, Clergy, and Laity for their sacrifice, cooperation, and teamwork in working out the demands of the Resolution.  We have faced some challenges such as misinformation and misunderstanding of the purpose of the Resolution. However, consultations with different Groups have helped us. We are still working to sort out some of the issues.

Generally, we have made much progress and all our people are in support of the restructuring and resetting of Missions as the main focus of CONNAM. The future is bright and we are set to move to the next stage of the Task, through collective Visioning, Missions, Training, and Reorientation, Church-planting and Discipleship. The Clergy of CONNAM are eligible to be elected as Bishops of the Church of Nigeria. CONNAM is part and parcel of the Church of Nigeria and shall not be handed over to anyone or group. We shall work in partnership with other Christian Mission organizations and churches that share our Doctrinal convictions and passion for Mission.
