The Rt Revd Professor John Akao – Transition

On behalf of the Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of the Church of Nigeria we announce the transition to glory of the Rt Revd Professor John Akao which took place on Monday 29 May, 2017.

Bishop Akao had been preparing to retire from active church service in July 2017 but was called up before the time.

Apart from being a Church Prelate, Bishop Akao was an erudite scholar and a versatile university don who has produced many great scholars and pastors.

We commiserate with the Primate, the widow and family, the diocese of Sabongidda-Ora and the entire Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) on this great loss.  We pray the Lord to grant the family, friends and the church family the fortitude to bear this loss.

Details of the obsequies will be released later. Meanwhile the Archbishop of Bendel Province has been asked to be the supervisory Bishop for the diocese of Sabongidda-Ora
