GAFCON UPDATE: REV’D CANON DONISON, THE NEW GENERAL SECRETARY TO BE CONSECRATED BISHOP

The Reverend Canon Paul Donison as been appointed to be consecrated as Bishop for the role of the General secretary for the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON).

This was announced with joy in a press statement which was written and signed by the Chair, GAFCON Primates Council, Primate & Archbishop of Rwanda, The Most Rev. Dr. Laurent Mbanda on 17 January 2024.

According to the press statement; “In December 2023, the House of Bishops of the Anglican Church of Rwanda agreed to consecrate Dean Donison as Bishop”.
In addition, on the 9th of January 2024, the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) approved the proposal, following his consecration, it stated that “The bishop-elect Donison will be transferred to the Anglican Church in North America, and he will be Invested as Vicar General (Area Bishop) of the Texas Deanery of the Anglican Diocese of the South”.

The Primates passed a resolution during their meeting in London, in November 2023, asking that The Reverend Canon Paul Donison be consecrated, as the role of General Secretary. The impending consecration of the General Secretary, the Reverend Canon Paul Donison, as a Bishop will be held on the 4th of February 2024 at Holy Trinity Cathedral in Kigali, Rwanda. Afterward, a service of Investiture and Celebration of his New Ministry as the GAFCON General Secretary will be held at Christ Church Cathedral, Plano, Texas, USA, on 17th of February 2024.

Furthermore, One of GAFCON’s priorities is “To raise the next generation of global leaders, and the Primates are unanimous in our conviction that Paul is the right person to assume this office for such a time as this (Esther 4:14)”.
