The Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West, the Rt. Rev. Dr. James Olusola Odedeji urged all Christians to always be conscious of God and approach everything with eternity in focus.
His sermon during the holy week service, which was contained in a statement on Wednesday, reminded the Christian community to remember the self-sacrifice of Jesus that brought about the celebration.
Speaking on the theme “Celebrating the Lord’s Resurrection”; He stated that despite the economic reality of Nigerians, believers must always strive to be righteous.
Further into the sermon, Bishop Odedeji spurred Christians to always remember that Christ, the Prince of Peace, reigns and awaits the coming of His true followers.
He said “We are once again in that season of the year when we mark the trial, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is indeed worth remembering that it was that self-sacrifice that opened the door to heaven to those who know and follow Him acceptably.
“It is, therefore, appropriate that Nigerian Christians, after 40 days of self-denial by fasting in the Lenten season, remember that it does not all end here. They should always be God-conscious in their actions, whether in public or private life, realizing that God is everywhere.
“Easter also reminds us that righteousness exalts a nation, and sin is a reproach. All of us, leaders and followers alike, must be Christ-like and live as those believers in Antioch lived.
Finally, he thanked God for the lives of Christians for being alive to celebrate Easter, despite the economic realities facing us as a nation.
