‘All have sinned and come short of the glory of God but the most important thing is to ask God for forgiveness. God has forgiven this nation, individuals and the former president and his family’’.
These are the words of the Primate of all Nigeria (Anglican Communion) the Most Revd. Nicholas D. Okoh at the service of thanksgiving hosted by the Christian Association of Nigeria CAN at the National Christian Centre Abuja.
The cleric who took his text from psalm 103 asked that believers in Christ should have forgiving spirit because God has forgiven them and they should not go with heavy burdens as it is a lot cheaper to forgive than going about with grudges.
He recalled that during the last political campaigns there were many offences, many offened many because it could be said that is is the toughtest, the costliest and the bitterest so far in the political history of Nigeria.
He therefore summoned everyone to forgive their neighbour because according to him, the access to the heart of God and his blessings is forgiveness. He said Nigerians have left undone what they ought to have done and have done what they ought not to have done but he said God will heal Nigeria and restore it to her perfect health.
Archbishop Okoh reminded the former president of the mercies of God over him, his wife and children how God has saved them through many journeys and has saved the Nigerian nation from the prophets of doom who said Nigeria will disintegrate but they have been disappointed and withdrawn from public glare. This according to him, is God’s miraculous mercy, love and compassion for him to become deputy governor, governor, vice president, acting president and president, God ha said has been gracious.
He said it is the grace of God that he is going home a young man not haggard looking and Nigerians are not running helter shelter killing themselves, leaving to Nigerians, Africans and the black world a new political attitude that the political ambition of anybody is not worth the blood of anybody, thus creating peace and enabling Nigeria called JONATHANISM.
It is the view of primate Okoh that peace should be the basic agenda of the new government and the collective assignment of all Nigerians because according to him, they are travelling in a large ship like Noah’s salvific Ark and the pilot is President MohammaduBuhari with the support of Professor YemiOsinbajo his vice.
He challenged Nigerians to continue to pray without ceasing for God to lead Nigerians and the new pilot of government aright assuring that the church will cooperate with them by giving unto Caesar what is Caesars and unto God what is God’s. He pleaded with the new government that if there be any good, excellence, honour, praise worthy anywhere particularly with any project of the immediate past government, they should complete the on-going projects for the generations unborn.
He concluded his message by asking Dr.GoodluckEbele Jonathan and his wife to trust and draw closer to God, honour him with their lives and surrender to him totally and he said God will not forsake them but keep watch over them for they are peace makers and promoters.
