annual Diocesan Mothers Sport FiestaThe Primate of all Nigeria Anglican Communion The Most Rev Nicholas .D. Okoh has urged the Political Class to imbibe and take a cue from the good Sporting Spirit of never seeing Politics as a do-or-die affair but always accepting the winner in a clean and clear contest.

He made this submission at the annual Diocesan Mothers Sport Fiesta diocese Abuja which was held at the Sports Pavilion of the Anglican Girls Grammar School at Apo Gudu District Abuja.

He said that now that Nigeria is transiting from a Civilian to Civilian Government all hands should be on deck to support the new government to perform and move the Nigerian nation forward. He called on the Diocesan female athletes and competitors not to develop only the Spiritual Connectivity with God but also the Physical exercise of the body because both cohabit together in a Symbiotic relationship. He advised that the Sporting events should not be the end of activities but they should maintain habits that will keep them fit all the time.

In her Welcome Address the wife of the Primate and the President of women Organizations Mrs. Nkasiobi Okoh reiterated the focus that gave birth to the Diocesan Sports Fiesta which was the desire to the family come together in a relaxed atmosphere Preparatory to the Celebration of the Mothering Sunday.

She said that the Sports Fiesta is an Opportunity for the women to exercise themselves and keep fit and healthy. She gave Kudos to the Patron the Primate who initiated the Programme and give full support to ensure its continuity.

She projected that the annual Sporting event will physically involve the Participation of Men and Children in future. In his opening remarks the chairman of the occasion Engineer Onyeabo Ebenmelu CEO/MD Winrock Nigeria ltd and people’s warden of St James Church Asokoro. He said as a family recreation had been neglected especially among women. He advised the women to be Pragmatic in exercising their bodies so as to be in shape and become a balanced person. He said the Sporting Spirit should permeate the family. This according to him will reduce infighting and Spirit of tolerance would be imbibed.

He called on Politicians to emulate the Sportsmanship Spirit of the incumbent President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who didn’t see Politics as a do- or – die affairs or Politics of bitterness. He encouraged the incoming administration to work hard to unite the country and bring different people to work together in the Spirit of No winner No loser

Highlight of the Diocesan women Sporting events include the inspection of the Parade of the boy’s brigade which the Primate described as highly disciplined, March Past by Boys Brigade Girls Guild, Sisters Guild and Women from eight Archdeaconries. In all ten sporting events were competed for and Durumi Missionary Archdeaconry carried the day in overall 1st position, Wuse Archdeaconry came second while Maitama Archdeaconry came third.

This year’s diocesan sports fiesta was full of surprises as Durumi Archdeaconry came from behind in former Competition to beat the three time winner Gudu Archdeaconry. It was full of fun singing and dancing all the way.
