COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 1ST SESSION OF THE 17TH SYNOD OF IJEBU ANGLICAN DIOCESE, HELD AT CHRIST ANGLICAN CHURCH, IJEBU IFE, BETWEEN THURSDAY 24TH AND SUNDAY 27TH APRIL, 2025

To the glory of God, the Ijebu Anglican Diocese, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, held her First Session of the Seventeenth Synod, presided over by His Lordship, the Rt. Revd. Dr. Peter Rotimi Oludipe, with the theme: “A Vessel unto Honour” (II Tim. 2:20–21).

In attendance were the Most Revd. Dr. Ephraim Adebola Ademowo, Dean Emeritus of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, and several Spiritual Fathers. Many prominent Royal Fathers, including His Royal Highness, Oba Adesesan Afolorunso Oguntayo, FCA (The Ajalorun of Ijebu Ife), and several other notable and distinguished personalities were also present to grace the occasion.

At the close of the session, the Synod resolved as follows:

That vessels are made with a purpose in mind and are designed for specific functions; hence, everyone is uniquely shaped to fulfil a divine purpose.

That for everyone who desires to be a vessel unto honour, he should endeavour to live a life of endurance, discipline, and devotion—just like a soldier, an athlete, and a farmer are intentionally committed to their rules of engagement and their targets in life.

That God is building a great house, and to be part of that house, only those who make themselves clean from dishonourable things can be fit for the Master’s use.

That God is still calling for those who are willing to be consecrated for His use, and that such people will enjoy God’s support, blessings, and great grace.

THE STATE OF THE NATION

The Synod appreciates the several efforts put in place by the Federal Government of Nigeria, led by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in curbing insecurity, but there is need to review the complex and multifaceted nature of that menace in order to properly put it at bay.

The Synod noted that despite bold reforms implemented to stabilize the economy and the social programs to support the poorest households, our land is still ravaged by poverty. Therefore, longstanding structural challenges should be addressed, including the reduction of trade barriers, improvement of the business environment, and reforms to promote macroeconomic stability.

The Synod called on the Government to improve the living standard of the citizens by investing in human capital—particularly in education, healthcare, and social protection.

The Synod urged the Government to address regional disparities by improving basic services and infrastructure in rural areas, and by tackling issues of environmental degradation in the Niger Delta.

OGUN STATE

The Synod appreciates His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for his continuous efforts at improving physical infrastructure—especially the road networks in the state—and pleaded with him to expedite action on the ongoing projects to enhance business activities and bring comfort to the citizens.

The Synod also pleaded with the Governor to improve on the existing services at the public hospitals and health centres, as several people are finding it increasingly difficult to engage the services of private health providers.
