Interviewer: Thank you very much, Your Grace, could you please introduce yourself, your diocese, and how long you’ve served?
Archbishop: By the grace of God, my name is Simeon Borokini. I serve as the Bishop of Akure and the Archbishop of the Ondo Ecclesiastical Province. I have been on this Episcopal journey for thirteen years.
Interviewer: Looking back, what would you say are some key milestone achievements of your ministry?
Archbishop: When we became Bishop, we had fourteen archdeaconries; today, we have twenty-four. We also encouraged our clergy to pursue higher education. Many are now Doctors of Philosophy, some are studying for doctorates, and others have completed Master’s degrees. God also used us to establish the SHE programme. Some beneficiaries have become judges, and one currently serves as a priest in our diocese. Women involved in the programme support widows through loans and charitable initiatives.
Interviewer: How else has your ministry impacted the wider community?
Archbishop: We established a spiritual outreach to serve the community, especially people from less-represented religious backgrounds. About three years ago, we ran a safe surgery outreach, where Muslims and others participated. We provided medical checks, support, and referrals, with no church membership required. God has used this to bring hope and practical help to many.
Interviewer: As you approach retirement, what will you miss most?
Archbishop: I will miss the fellowship. This retreat will be my last as a serving bishop and adviser. I’ll also miss Standing Committee Meetings, Diocesan programmes, and many of the official duties and gatherings that have filled my years. Naturally, these opportunities will be fewer once I retire.
