The Anglican Diocese of Amichi, located in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria, was carved out of the then Nnewi Anglican Diocese in Nnewi North Local Government Area over fifteen years ago. At its inception, the Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor and his wife, Dame Nkem Ikeakor, were appointed as the pioneer Bishop and Bishop’s Wife, ushering the Diocese into a new era of ecclesiastical administration and spiritual development.
Though the Diocese of Amichi covers an ecclesiastical boundary that is not up to a full Local Government Area, it has steadily grown into a remarkable centre of spiritual vitality and socio-economic progress. Over the years, the Diocese has evolved into a place of focused growth, resilience, and vision-driven transformation. Today, it stands as one of the most active construction sites within the Anglican Communion east of the Niger, reflecting a consistent commitment to infrastructural advancement and purposeful development.
Despite its numerical and geographical limitations, Amichi Diocese has continued to compete favourably with its peers, and in many cases, has outperformed expectations. This progress has distinguished the Diocese in several sectors, positioning it not only as a hub of development but also as a gateway and epicentre of evangelism. The Diocese has equally maintained a strong tradition of philanthropy, demonstrating compassion and support to communities within and beyond its jurisdiction.
Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Ikeakor began his episcopal journey with a clear vision rooted in Christ, the Sure Anchor. Through God’s grace, he and his wife have been endowed with wisdom and an effective ministry that transcends ecclesiastical boundaries. Together, they have made undeniable contributions to the growth and stability of the Diocese, leaving visible footprints of leadership, service, and spiritual impact.
So closely has Bishop Ikeakor become identified with the Diocese and the Amichi community that a common response often heard when one mentions travelling to Amichi is: “Are you going for Bishop Ikeakor’s programme?” This speaks volumes about the Bishop’s influence, not only as a teacher of God’s Word but also as a passionate advocate of discipleship development and spiritual revival.
Born on May 4, 1966, Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor was elected Bishop of Amichi on November 12, 2008, consecrated on January 11, 2009, and enthroned on January 13, 2009. He is widely travelled and respected as a speaker at crusades, seminars, conferences, revivals, and conventions both within and outside Nigeria.
Bishop Ikeakor also hosts a popular radio gospel programme titled “In Touch With God,” aired weekly on five radio stations, as well as a television broadcast on the Anglican Cable Network Nigeria (ACNN) every Friday at 7:00pm. Through these platforms, his ministry continues to reach and bless countless lives, strengthening the Church and inspiring believers across the nation.
Indeed, with a leader like Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Ikeakor, the Body of Christ has a brighter future. His episcopate remains functional, effective, and result-oriented, reflecting the grace of God and the fruit of committed leadership.
The Diocese of Amichi remains grateful for the privilege of hosting this important Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Standing Committee Meeting, and looks forward with thanksgiving to all that God will accomplish through this historic gathering.
