The former Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Chief Dr. Simon Okeke (Ochendo Amichi), has commended the leadership of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) for selecting the Diocese of Amichi, located in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, as host of the 2026 Standing Committee Meeting.

Reacting to the development, Chief Okeke praised the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, His Grace, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, describing his leadership as dynamic and the choice of Amichi Diocese to host the meeting as commendable.

According to him, the decision to host the Standing Committee meeting in Amichi Diocese is a rare privilege. He added that such an opportunity may not come again for several years.

Chief Okeke also lauded the Bishop of Amichi Diocese, the Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor, describing him as a blessing to the 15 year old Diocese and a gift to the Anglican Communion.

“You are a blessing to Amichi Diocese” Chief Okeke stated.

He added that the ministry of Bishop Ikeakor has made so much impact in the land and described him as a “wonderful and brilliant crusader”.

He noted with great joy that it is a remarkable feat for the Diocese to host bishops, clergy, and delegates from across the 177 dioceses of the Church of Nigeria, adding that God had used the Diocesan Bishop to mobilize and execute this high-profile meeting.

The Standing Committee is the highest legislative and decision-making body of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) when the General Synod is not in session. Held twice a year, the meeting brings together the Primate, Archbishops, Bishops, and delegates (both clergy and laity) from all dioceses across Nigeria. The gathering serves as a platform for prayer, deliberation on national issues, and the formulation of policies that guide the spiritual and administrative life of the Church.
