The 2026 Standing Committee Meeting of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has commenced in the Diocese of Amichi, Anambra State, with a special Evensong held at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Osumenyi.

Delivering the sermon at the service, the Diocesan Bishop of Amichi, His Lordship, the Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Okechukwu Ikeakor, charged Christians to embrace wholehearted devotion and faithful obedience to God.

Preaching on the topic “The Great Challenge,” Bishop Ikeakor posed a reflective question to the congregation: “Who are you following?” He urged believers to emulate the character of Joshua, who declared his unwavering commitment to God, saying that he and his household would serve the Lord.

The Bishop emphasized that the fear of God remains the foundation for righteous living and urged Christians to cultivate godly reverence as a vital part of their spiritual walk. He prayed that believers would be strengthened to live in the fear of God, thereby strengthening their faith and walk with God.

In his remarks shortly after the sermon, the Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), His Grace, The Most Rev’d Dr. Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, expressed gratitude to all delegates and worshippers present at the service.

The Primate also appreciated the host Bishop, the Rt. Rev’d Ephraim Ikeakor, and his wife for their hospitality and generosity, as well as all individuals and committees working tirelessly to ensure the success of the Standing Committee meeting.

He concluded with prayers for God’s continued presence, grace, and guidance throughout the duration of the meeting.
