COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 3RD  SESSION OF THE 14TH SYNOD OF THE DIOCESE OF REMO (ANGLICAN COMMUNION) HELD AT ST. PETER’S  ANGLICAN CHURCH, ISARA-REMO BETWEEN THURSDAY, 15TH AND SUNDAY, 18TH MAY, 2025

Introduction:

The Third Session of the Fourteenth Synod of the Diocese of Remo (Anglican Communion) was held at St. Peter’s  Anglican Church, Isara Remo, in Remo North Local Government Area of  Ogun State between Thursday, 15th and Sunday, 18th  May, 2025.

The theme of the Synod was: “Baptism: The Outward Physical Sign of the Inward Spiritual Rebirth” (Romans 6:4). The Synod, having been duly constituted, was presided over by the Most Revd Dr. Michael Olusina Fape, Bishop of the Diocese of Remo, assisted by the Chancellor, Mr. Lanre Ogunlesi, SAN and other Diocesan dignitaries.

The Rt. Revd. Dr. Michael Oluwarohunbi, Bishop of Yewa and the Rt. Revd. Babatunde C. Akinpelu Johnson, Bishop of Lagos Mainland were the Guest Preachers. The Venerable Samuel Oladele Enike led the Bible Study.

The Theme of the Synod:

The Synod deliberated on the Theme “Baptism: The Outward Physical Sign of the Inward Spiritual Rebirth” (Romans 6:4) and posited that Baptism, as a symbolic rite of admission into the membership of the Christian community, is not just a ceremonial act but an evidence of the inward spiritual transformation portraying death to sin and new birth to righteousness.

Synod further stressed that Baptism signifies that Christians have been crucified with Christ and have been raised to a new life of right fellowship with God.

Synod challenged Christian parents as well as the godfathers and godmothers of the baptized infants or children to rise up to their duties of proper and necessary spiritual nurture and care until the children are old enough to declare their faith in Jesus Christ publicly and are duly confirmed by the Bishop.

Synod therefore encouraged all Christians to remain committed to the faith into which they have been saved and baptized by consciously walking in newness of life to reflect the life of Christ in them.

State of the Nation

  1. Politics of Defection: Synod expressed worries at the defections of politicians from one political party to another and attributed it to lack of clear political ideology and a search for self-survival and relevance. The Renew Hope Agenda does not need fair-weeather politicians.
  2. Problem of Epileptic Power Supply: Synod applauded the courageous actions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR resulting in remarkable achievements in several aspects of our national life. Synod suggested that just as the regime of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is credited with solving the telecommunication and banking problems in Nigeria, the regime of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu can also be credited for giving Nigeria stable power in addition to other infrastructural development he has embarked upon.
  3. Insecurity in Nigeria: Synod noted that one of the basic assignments of any government is security of life and property and pleaded with the Administration of President Tinubu to be more deliberate in its commitment to providing adequate security by putting in place necessary measures to fish out sponsors and practitioners of insurgency and kidnapping in Nigeria.
