The Rt. Revd. Michael Adebayo Oluwarohunbi, PhD, was born on April 21, 1960, and hails from Ororuwo in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, Nigeria.
He began his formal education at the Anglican College of Commerce, Offa, Kwara State, from 1971 to 1976, where he earned his West African School Certificate. Following his secondary education, he attended the School of Basic Studies at Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin, between 1978 and 1979, and obtained the Cambridge General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level.
In 1980, he gained admission into the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, where he graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science. He later earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Ilorin in 2000. His theological education includes a Master of Arts in Christian Religious Studies in 2018 and a PhD in Biblical Studies (Old Testament) in 2022—both from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State.
Professionally, Bishop Oluwarohunbi served in the Federal Civil Service beginning in October 1984 as an Administrative Officer. Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become an Assistant Director before voluntarily retiring on December 31, 2009.
His journey into ordained ministry began as a Licensed Lay Reader in 1996 in the Diocese of Abuja. He was ordained a Deacon on December 6, 1998, by the Most Revd. Peter Jasper Akinola, DD, CON, was ordained on October 3, 1999. His clerical progression continued as he was preferred Canon in May 2006 and elevated to Archdeacon in September 2009.
He served in various pastoral and supervisory capacities within the Diocese of Abuja. He was Curate at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarimpa, and Vicar at churches including St. Barnabas’ Church, Apo; St. Matthias’ Church, Durumi; St. Matthew’s Church, Gwarimpa Estate; and St. Matthew’s Church, Maitama. He also served as Supervising Priest at Maitama Archdeaconry and later again at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp.
In addition to his pastoral duties, Bishop Oluwarohunbi has contributed to ecclesiastical scholarship through numerous academic and spiritual publications. Before elevating to the episcopacy, he served as the General Secretary of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) Headquarters from March 2010 to February 2014.
He was elected and consecrated as the third Bishop of Yewa Diocese on February 18, 2014, and was enthroned on March 6, 2014.
Bishop Oluwarohunbi is married to Grace Olufunke, and their union is blessed with four children, one of whom is late.
