Biography of The Bishop of the Diocese of Ijebu – The Rt. Rev. Dr. Peter Rotimi Oludipe

The Right Reverend Dr. Peter Rotimi Oludipe, Ph.D, is the Bishop of the Diocese of Ijebu in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). He was elected Bishop on July 22, 2020, and consecrated on September 21, 2020, by the Most Rev’d Henry Chukwudum Ndukuba, Archbishop, Metropolitan and Primate of All Nigeria.

Born in Iwaya Ijebu, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Bishop Oludipe hails from the family of Papa and Mama D.A. Ogundipe. His early education began at St. Andrew’s Primary School, Imuwen. He attended Isonyin Grammar School, Isonyin-Ijebu from 1976 to 1981, and later proceeded to Ogun State School of Basic Studies, Ijebu Ode in 1983 for his Higher School Certificate (HSC). During this formative period, he sensed a divine call to serve in the ministry.

He received his theological training at Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan (1986–1989), where he graduated with distinction, earning the prize for Best Student in Pastoral Counselling. He also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies, a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counselling, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ibadan.

Bishop Oludipe was made a Deacon on June 30, 1991, by Rt. Rev. G.I.O. Olajide, and ordained Priest on July 5, 1992. He began his ordained ministry at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Agbowo, University of Ibadan, and later became the Pioneer Vicar of Jesus Christ Ambassadors Evangelical Anglican Church, Yemetu, Alaadorin, Ibadan. In 1998, he was preferred Statutory Canon of the Cathedral Church of St. James, Oke Bola, Ibadan. He was later promoted to Archdeacon and served at Christ Church, Mapo, Ibadan, where he was inducted as Vicar and Archdeacon on March 14, 1999.

On October 10, 2010, he became the Provost of the Cathedral Church of Our Saviour, Italowajoda, Ijasi, Ijebu-Ode, in the Diocese of Ijebu. His tenure as Provost lasted until his election as Bishop in 2020.

Bishop Oludipe is known for his transparency, integrity, and theological depth. He has contributed significantly to both the spiritual and infrastructural development of the Diocese and Cathedral. He is an experienced and principled leader who has attended numerous conferences locally and internationally. His ministry reflects a passion for pastoral care, sound teaching, and responsible leadership.

He is happily married to Professor Bimbola D. Oludipe, a lecturer at Olabisi Onabanjo University and a Princess from the royal Bamgbelu dynasty of Owu-Ijebu. She is dedicated to youth mentorship and Christian service. Their marriage is blessed with godly children.
