The Right Reverend Dr. Andrew Olusola Ajayi, an embodiment of grace, erudition, and pastoral devotion, was born on July 2, 1959, in Fiditi, Oyo State, Nigeria. His life has been marked by an unmistakable calling and a commitment to excellence, both spiritually and intellectually.

He is married to Mrs. Abimbola Bolarinwa Ajayi, a noble companion in ministry, and their home is blessed with two children who carry forward the virtues of faith and character.

His educational journey commenced at Precious Stone Primary School, Ijebu-Ode (1966–1971), and continued at Ijebu Southern District Grammar School, Ala via Ijebu-Ode (1972–1976), where he developed the early qualities of diligence and academic rigor.

Answering the call to ministry, he proceeded to Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan (1978–1981), earning a Diploma in Religious Studies and a College Diploma in Theology.

Dr. Ajayi’s pursuit of deeper theological insight led him to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies (1982–1985) and a Master of Arts in New Testament Studies (1987–1990).

In a further display of academic ambition and spiritual depth, he obtained a Master of Theology (STM) in Christian Ethics from the prestigious Union Theological Seminary, New York City (1994–1995).

Crowning his scholarly pursuits, he was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in New Testament Studies by Ekiti State University in March 2015. This academic milestone not only cemented his place among the foremost theological scholars in the Nigerian Anglican Communion but also reinforced his authority as a biblical expositor and thought leader within the Church.

Since his enthronement as the sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Ekiti on August 13, 2022, Bishop Dr. Ajayi has brought transformative energy, strategic clarity, and a shepherd’s heart to his episcopal ministry. His tenure has been marked by dynamic reforms, spiritual renewal, and robust institutional growth.

A cornerstone of his leadership has been the advancement of clergy welfare. Under his guidance, stipends and allowances for clergy have been reviewed and improved, including the introduction of a wardrobe allowance and enhanced retirement benefits—initiatives reflecting both dignity and foresight. He has prioritized the pastoral well-being of both clergy and their families, establishing a health insurance scheme and organizing free medical check-ups for clergy and their spouses.

His tenure has witnessed significant infrastructural developments. Church buildings have been renovated or newly established; lands acquired for future expansion; and the Diocesan headquarters beautified and made more functional. Education has also received thoughtful investment, with the revitalization of the CBT Ekiti Anglican Diocesan High School being a notable highlight.

In terms of technological advancement, Bishop Ajayi has modernized the Diocesan website and launched a multimedia studio to enhance the Church’s digital presence. These innovations reflect his sensitivity to the changing landscape of evangelism and the importance of global connectivity.

Liturgical and spiritual life within the Diocese has been enriched under his leadership. He has administered confirmation rites to over 1,500 candidates, instituted quarterly diocesan night vigils, and presided over multiple dedications of new church edifices and community projects. Pastoral retreats, evangelists’ conferences, and youth-focused empowerment programs have all featured prominently in his agenda.

Financial stewardship and strategic investments have also gained prominence. Bishop Ajayi has introduced sustainable measures to stabilize and grow Diocesan finances, thereby securing the Church’s long-term viability. His attention to diocesan enterprises, such as the water factory and transportation services, demonstrates his holistic approach to Church growth.

Dr. Ajayi’s leadership style exemplifies a rare fusion of humility, spiritual authority, and visionary strategy. His open-door policy and transparent administrative ethos have fostered trust and unity across the Diocese. He empowers others to lead, encourages innovation, and creates a work environment imbued with peace, purpose, and spiritual vitality.

Beneath the ecclesiastical robes is a man of deep compassion—a pastor with a profound love for his flock, a teacher with a scholar’s mind, and a leader with a servant’s heart. He combines rigorous theology with a pragmatic understanding of community dynamics, making him both relatable and revered among clergy and laity alike.

The life and ministry of The Right Reverend Dr. Andrew Olusola Ajayi offer a compelling witness to the possibilities that emerge when intellectual depth, spiritual vision, and pastoral care converge in one individual. His leadership is not merely defined by accomplishments, but by the lasting spiritual imprint he continues to leave on the Diocese of Ekiti and the wider Church.

While his episcopal tenure is still unfolding, the trajectory of his ministry inspires confidence in a future filled with greater evangelistic reach, institutional development, and spiritual renewal. More schools, healthcare centers, and churches are likely to arise under his hand. More lives will be touched, and more communities will be transformed as he leads with conviction, prayer, and purpose.

May the grace of God continue to rest mightily upon Bishop Dr. Ajayi, strengthening him to do even greater works for the glory of Christ and the expansion of His Kingdom.
