“A City Yet To Come” (Heb 13:14), was the theme of this year’s Synod of Ibadan North Anglican Diocese just concluded at the Cathedral of St. Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, Oyo State. Presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese and Archbishop of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province, the Most Reverend Dr. SEGUN OKUBADEJO, the Synod was attended by Diocesan officials, clergy and delegates from all over the Diocese.

The preacher at the opening service, the Rt. Revd. Akintunde Popoola of Offa Diocese dwelt on contemporary happenings and the scriptures to establish the certainty of that city yet to come. He encouraged Christians to prepare for that city which is eternal.

In his charge to the Synod, the Diocesan, the Most Revd. Okubadejo gave an incisive overview of various problems confronting the nation requiring the attention of the new government. These include corruption, unemployment, insecurity, unreliable and inefficient power generation, economic doldrums etc.

Bishop of Badagry Diocese, the Rt. Revd. Babatunde Adeyemi, in a sermon at the closing ceremony, charged Christians to focus on the eternal home, stressing that Jesus is the roadmap to that city yet to come.

In a communiqué, the Synod commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the grace to hand over a united Nigeria to his successor and congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, while wishing him a purpose driven tenure.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Professor Attahiru Jega and members of his team were commended for conducting credible, free and fair elections in Nigeria.

To reflect the change Nigerians yearn for, the Synod said President Buhari’s administration must imbibe the concept of servant leadership adding that the leadership must embrace core values like humility, personal responsibility, transparency, integrity, moral uprightness, accountability and hard work.

On the economy, it recommended diversification into areas like agriculture, mining and exports to provide job opportunities for millions of the unemployed, especially the youth.

The Synod appealed to Nigerians to cooperate fully with the government so that there would be a change for the better in the country.
