Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has challenged the leadership of the Churches in the country to rise up and speak against evil in the land.

Wike who said this at the formal opening of the 12^th General Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in Port Harcourt, said that the church cannot afford to keep quiet, while things go wrong in the land.

The Governor also disclosed plans by his administration to launch a trust fund for men of God in the State.

He also said that his administration will not relent in its support to the church and called on church leaders to mobilize their members to participate in the political process.

He assured the generality of the people that no threat can shake him and nobody can intimidate him.

Gov. Wike used the occasion to intimate the audience of some achievements of his administration in the last two and half years. They include the renovation of 13 General Hospitals, renovation of 183 Primary Schools in the 23 Local Government Areas, as well as the provision of logistics supports to the various security agencies, adding that this feat has made Rivers State more secure than before.

He said that his administration inherited several abandoned projects from the previous administration, stressing that most of the projects are being completed now.

Governor Wike vehemently denied being a member of any secret cult, adding that something must be done to nip in the bud rumour mongering, fabrication of lies and promote good governace.

According to him, the church must promote good and avoid evil.

The Governor, who described the theme of the Synod as apt and good, however, urged for a holistic approach to tackling corruption in the country.

Stealing, according to him is a dishonoured act and great offense in the sight of God. He assured that the government will consolidate association with the church.
