The Rt. Rev. Monday Chukwuma Nkwoagu was born on the 10th of February, 1964, into the humble Christian family of the late Mr. Nkwoagu Ojeogu and Mrs. Blessing M. Nkwoagu. He hails from Uwarem Amachi in Amachi Development Center, Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. He is the first son and the second child in the family.

He began his educational journey at Izzi Community Primary School, Ndingwuta Amachi, and completed his primary education in 1979. In 1981, he moved to Kaduna State, where he served the household of Engr. and Mrs. Azubuike Uzowulu—a devout Anglican family who took him under their wing and helped nurture him spiritually and academically. During this period, he enrolled in a secretarial training program and successfully passed the Pitman’s Examination from London.

Monday Chukwuma Nkwoagu started his professional career in 1985 as a stenographer with a construction firm in Kaduna, and later in 1987, joined an insurance company. While working in Kaduna, he became an active member of the Anglican Church, participating in various arms of the Church such as the Evangelical Fellowship in the Anglican Communion (EFAC), the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF), and the church choir at Christ Church, Katsina Road, Kaduna Diocese. His dedication to church service and his deepening faith led him to discern a divine call to full-time ministry.

In October 1989, he resigned from his secular employment to pursue full-time church work within the Kaduna Diocese. Between 1992 and 1995, he attended St. Francis of Assisi Theological College, Wusasa, Zaria, where he received theological training. He holds several academic and theological qualifications including a B.Sc. in Education, a B.A. in Theology, a Diploma in Theology, and a Diploma in Christian Religious Education.

He was ordained as a Deacon on July 2, 1995, and later as a Priest on January 12, 1997, both in the Diocese of Makurdi. In 1999, he transferred his service to the Diocese of Abakaliki, where he was preferred and collated as Canon in 2001, and later as Archdeacon in 2003. He also served in the newly created Ngbo Diocese from 2007 to 2011, holding several key roles during that period.

His appointments have included Chaplain to the Men’s Christian Association in Abakaliki Diocese from 2001 to 2006, Director of the Laity School in Ngbo Diocese from 2007 to 2008, Chaplain to the Women’s Ministry from 2007 to 2010, Chaplain to the Council of Knights from 2008 to 2010, and Director of the Clergy School from 2009 to 2010.

Throughout his ministerial journey, Bishop Nkwoagu has served faithfully in multiple dioceses including Kaduna, Makurdi, Abakaliki, and Ngbo. In July 2011, he was elected Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, his home diocese, and was consecrated on the 25th of September, 2011, at the Archbishop Vining Memorial Cathedral in Lagos.

A passionate pastor, teacher, and preacher of the Word of God, Bishop Nkwoagu is deeply committed to the spiritual growth and administrative development of the church. He is married to Lady Nwanyieze Charity Nkwoagu, and their union is blessed with five children.

To God be the glory.
