The Rt. Rev’d Isaac Olatunde Olubowale was born on the 1st of August, 1958 into the humble and godly family of Late Pa Joseph Popoola and Mrs. Aina Iyaniwura Olubowale of Iffe in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. His life has been marked by devotion, spiritual discipline, and a relentless commitment to God’s calling.
He received his early education at St. Peter’s Primary School, Minna, and proceeded to Government Secondary School (formerly Fatima) also in Minna for his secondary education. Before his full transition into ministry, he worked as a professional salesman and trained journalist, attending the Nigerian Broadcasting Academy in Ikeja, Lagos. He was trained for ministry at Burleigh College, Harrow Way, Middlesex, England and furthered his theological education at the prestigious Immanuel College of Theology, Samonda, Ibadan.
Ordained a deacon in 1986 and priested in 1987, Bishop Olubowale quickly rose through the ranks of ecclesiastical leadership. In 2000, he was installed as a Canon Residentiary of the Cathedral Church of St. Luke, Jos and collated as an Archdeacon in the same year. His ministry experience spans several states and cities across Northern Nigeria, where he faithfully served in various pastoral and leadership capacities. His service postings include St. George’s Anglican Church Zaria (both as Curate and later as Vicar), St. Andrew’s Anglican Church GRA Zaria, St. Christopher’s Anglican Church Kaduna, St. Luke’s Anglican Church Jos, and St. James’ Anglican Church Suleja.
On June 2, 2004, during the Episcopal Synod of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) held at St. Matthias’ Church Wuse, Abuja, he was elected as the pioneer Bishop of the newly created Diocese of Ekiti-Oke. At the time of his election, he was serving as the Vicar of St. James’ Anglican Church, Suleja. His consecration took place on St. James’ Day, July 25, 2004, at the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Gwarinpa, Abuja. He was subsequently enthroned as the Bishop of Ekiti-Oke Diocese on Thursday, July 29, 2004.
Bishop Olubowale is known for his theological depth, journalistic insight, and administrative competence. Under his leadership, the Diocese of Ekiti-Oke has witnessed significant spiritual and structural growth, with particular emphasis on evangelism, church planting, and youth development.
He is married to his beloved wife and partner in ministry, Mrs. Margaret Olufunke Olubowale, and their union is blessed with three God-fearing children: Margaret Oluwabunmi, Michael Olorunfemi, and Joshua Aanuoluwapo.
