The Rt. Rev. Daniel Nkemjika Olinya was born during the Nigerian Civil War on September 15, 1967, in the small farm settlement of Umu-Okpara, Umuhu, in Eha-Amufu, Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State. He was born to Mr. Olinya Odo Egbevu and Mrs. Evelyn Odoabuchi, both of blessed memory, in a family that practiced traditional religion.

His early education took place across three different schools: Community Primary School, Umuhu; Eha-Amufu Township School (ETS); and Central School, Omoba in Abia State, where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1983. He continued at Community Secondary School, Umuhu, and completed his Senior School Certificate Examination in 1989.

In 1986, young Daniel gave his life to Christ through the ministry of Scripture Union. This decision led to his ostracization by his family, but with support from the same Scripture Union, he was able to complete his SSCE. After secondary school, he left for Northern Nigeria in search of opportunities and began teaching in Kankara, Katsina State, while simultaneously pastoring a small Anglican Church he helped establish.

Answering the call to full-time ministry, he was admitted in 1991 to St. Francis of Assisi Theological College, Wusasa, Zaria. He graduated in 1994 and was ordained a Deacon that same year by the Rt. Rev. James Kwasu of the Diocese of Katsina. He was priested in 1995. He served in various churches in the Katsina Diocese, including St. John’s Cathedral and St. James Church, Funtua.

In 1998, he was seconded to the Diocese of Kano by Rt. Rev. Zakka Nyam and was made a Canon of the Cathedral that same year. In 2000, he was seconded to the Diocese of Minna by Rt. Rev. Nathaniel Yisa and assigned to St. Andrew’s Church, Sabon Gari, Minna. Impressed with his dedication, Bishop Yisa preferred him Archdeacon in September 2000.

In 2004, after completing a Theology degree at the Theological College of Northern Nigeria (TCNN), Bukuru (via Jos), he was transferred to St. Peter’s Cathedral, and later in 2006 to Kontagora, where he was tasked with preparing the area for a new missionary diocese.

In 2008, while serving in Kontagora, he was elected as Bishop in the Church of Nigeria. He was consecrated on January 11, 2009, and enthroned as the Pioneer Bishop of the Missionary Diocese of Eha-Amufu, where he continues to serve faithfully.

To strengthen his ministry, Bishop Olinya earned a Master of Science degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution from the National Open University of Nigeria in 2012. He is known for his evangelistic zeal, commitment to truth, and unwavering passion for church growth and youth development.

He married his beloved wife, Regina, in 1998. Their union is blessed with three children: MakuoChukwu, Chukwuebuka, and Ozioma.

Bishop Olinya resides with his family at Bishopscourt GRA, Eha-Amufu. His interests include reading, watching football, traveling, and building relationships.

He is a devoted Christian leader raised in the Scripture Union tradition, and has held several key positions, including:

  • Former Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (Isi-Uzo Chapter)

  • Former Provincial Youth Coordinator

  • Patron, Scripture Union Nsukka Zone

  • Current Vice Chairman, Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Enugu State Chapter

Bishop Daniel Nkemjika Olinya remains a courageous preacher, fervent teacher, and herald of truth within the Church of Nigeria and beyond.
