Biography of The Bishop of the Diocese of Asaba – The Rt. Rev’d Kingsley Chukwukamadu Obuh

The Rt. Rev’d Kingsley Chukwukamadu Obuh hails from Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha-South Local Government Area, Delta State, Nigeria. He was born on Monday, 22nd March, 1976, to the family of Mr. Godwin N. Obuh and Mrs. Patricia N. Obuh (of blessed memory).

He began his early education at Ubulu Primary School, Ubulu-Uku (1983–1988), and continued at St. Anthony’s College, Ubulu-Uku (1989–1994). Shortly after, he was employed as a Catechist in the Ubulu-Uku Parish of Ubulu-Uku Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Asaba, where he served for two years.

He earned a Diploma in Theology from St. Paul’s University College, Awka (now Paul University, Awka) and a Diploma in Religious Studies from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), graduating in June 2002. He was made a Deacon on 14th July, 2002, and ordained Priest on 13th July, 2003.

Rev. Obuh served in various parishes in the Diocese of Asaba, including:

  • Aballa-Unor Parish (now in Ndokwa Diocese) – Vicar/Parish Priest (Sept. 2002 – Dec. 2004)

  • Immanuel Church, Ogwashi-Uku – Curate (Jan. 2005 – Dec. 2005)

  • St. James Church, Ogwashi-Uku – Vicar/Parish Priest (Jan. 2006 – Apr. 2007)

He proceeded to Uganda Christian University, Mukono, where he graduated in 2009 with First-Class Honours in Bachelor of Divinity (BD) and was awarded Best Graduating Student in the School of Divinity/Theology. During his final year, he served as President of the International Students Association.

Upon return to Nigeria in 2009, he was posted to All Saints’ Church, Issele-Uku, as Vicar, and on 14th December 2009, he was preferred Honorary Canon by His Grace, The Most Rev’d Dr. Nicholas D. Okoh, then Bishop of Asaba, Archbishop of the Province of Bendel, and later Primate of the Church of Nigeria.

In January 2010, he was deployed to Ezekiel College of Theology, Ujoelen-Ekpoma, Edo State, as a Lecturer, appointed Acting Registrar the same year, and confirmed Substantive Registrar in 2011. He later earned a Master of Arts in Religious Studies (majoring in Christian Theology) from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

In July 2013, he was transferred to the Church of Nigeria National Secretariat, Abuja, where he served as Personal Assistant to The Most Rev’d Dr. Nicholas D. Okoh, then Primate of the Church of Nigeria, until the Primate’s retirement on 25th March 2020.

  • Administrative Secretary to the Primate (Reappointed by The Most Rev’d Henry C. Ndukuba on 6th May 2020)

He also served in several churches within Abuja, including:

  • Cathedral Church of the Advent, Life Camp, Gwarinpa

  • St. Matthew’s Church, Gwarinpa (Assistant Vicar)

  • St. Paul’s Church, Apo (Vicar)

  • Chapel of the Resurrection, Episcopal House, Wuye (Pioneer Chaplain, Apr. 2018 – Oct. 2019)

  • All Saints’ Church, Wuse Zone 5, Abuja

He served as Chaplain of St. Matthias’ Chapel, Church of Nigeria National Secretariat, Gudu, Abuja (formerly Chapel of the Advent, Primate’s Office, Wuse Zone 5) from August 2013 to March 2022.

On St. Matthias’ Day, 24th February 2022, he was elected Bishop of the Diocese of Asaba at the Standing Committee Meeting of the Church of Nigeria held at All Saints’ Cathedral, Rumuokwurusi, and St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Rumuobiokani Deanery, Evo Diocese, Rivers State.

He was consecrated Bishop on Sunday, 3rd April, 2022, at St. Peter’s Cathedral Church, Ake, Abeokuta (Diocese of Egba, Ogun State), and enthroned as the 4th Bishop of Asaba Diocese on Tuesday, 5th April, 2022, at Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Bishopscourt, Asaba.

Bishop Kingsley C. Obuh is married to Mrs. Comfort Nkechiyem Obuh (née Okolugbo), and their marriage is blessed with four children: Marvellous, Goodness, Godswill, and Prosper.

He is a gifted writer, dynamic preacher, and teacher of the Word of God. He is the author of the book:
“Dynamic Worship: The Secret of Church Growth.”

He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Christian Theology at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria’s premier university.
