TOPIC: EXPECTATION OF OUR AMBASSADORS
PREACHER: THE RT. REV. DR. BABATUNDE OGUNBANWO BISHOP IJEBU SOUTH WEST DIOCESE
(BY VEN. FOLUSO TAIWO)

Christians have been likened to the calling of an ambassador whose expectation is to be successful, fruitful, dominate, victorious and fulfilled in his assignment.

The Rt Rev Dr Babatunde Ogunbanwo bishop of Ijebu South West Diocese gave this viivid description at the opening of this year’s Bishop’s retreat of the church of Nigeria Anglican communion at St Peters chapel of IBRU International Ecumenical Centre Agbahartor in Delta State.

The cleric said as ambassadors they should hold fast to one important thing, that is the day of their recall to return home, the day to give account of their stewardship.

He opined that the ambassador should be living in expectation day by day for his time of recall.

He gave a striking example of Simeon a man of hope who waited for the restoration of Israel, the comfort and relief that the messiah would bring and it came to pass before his very eyes.

He said the panacea to see the actualization of Nigeria’s fulfillment by Nigerians is to remain just and pious like Simeon.

The Bishop of Ijebu South west called on his fellow Bishops to be prepared for the final recall because according to him one day they will let go the paraphernalia of their office adding that they should not allow anybody to take away their salvation from them.

He prayed that they will not die before their day of joy and that they will live to see it like Simeon did.

He posed before the Anglican Bishops that as Ambassadors of Christ in the 21st century, the challenges of syncretism, insurgents and insurgency, idolatry, same sex marriage, orthodoxy of scriptures, revisionist agenda, disunity, ethnicity, immorality, deceit and lying.

He urged them to hold fast to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and be diligent to the end not allowing the glittering things around them to take salvation from them.. He added that it is imperative to live in holiness, integrity and whatever it takes they should watch and pray.

Bishop Ogunbanwo said as Anglicans that they are, they should be highly disciplined and always make the difference not allowing the politicians to mess them up. He urged them to always be on the Lords side because all other ground is sinking sand.

The Rt. Rev. Babatunde Ogunbanwo stressed with all emphasis at his disposal that Jesus is coming soon, but the time, nobody can tell adding that the same thing applies to Bishops as ambassadors for Christ they cannot tell when they will be recalled he therefore suggested that they should cast their poor soul in sin cleansing fountain and be saved.
